LandsunElectric Trade notes on electrical work & site safety

Commercial and Residential Are Different Trades

Same regulations, same physics, almost nothing else in common.

Commercial and Residential Are Different Trades

Pace and coordination

Domestic work is small teams and direct client contact. Commercial is programme, sequencing and waiting for other trades. The skill that matters most on site is not termination speed, it is knowing what has to be in before the ceiling closes.

Scale changes the failure modes

A mistake in a house inconveniences a family. The same mistake in a distribution board serving a floor of a building takes out a business, and the cost of putting it right is dominated by access and downtime rather than by materials.

Which suits you

Residential rewards breadth, problem-solving and being good with people in their homes. Commercial rewards planning, documentation and patience with other people's programmes. Neither is the senior trade, whatever anyone on either side tells you.
