What the Apprenticeship Is Actually Like
Four years, a lot of conduit, and considerably more paperwork than anyone tells you at the open evening.
The first year
Fetching, drilling, pulling cable and learning where things are. It is repetitive on purpose. The people who struggle are usually the ones who expected to be terminating boards by March.
What separates the good ones
Asking why, writing it down, and reading the regulations for themselves rather than absorbing whatever the person training them happens to believe. A surprising amount of received site wisdom is a decade out of date.
The paperwork is the job
Certification, test results, records. Nobody enjoys it and it is the part that determines whether the work is defensible. An installation with no test schedule is, professionally speaking, an installation nobody can vouch for.
